Jodi McMaster is an experienced editor, writer, and consultant who has worked as an editor for hundreds of authors, nonfiction and fiction, published many articles and a book, consulted by and presented to various organizations. Among her clients have been international nonfiction publishers and members of the Big Six.
Developmental editing, proofreading, mechanical editing, technical writing, fact-checking, and manuscript preparation.
When acting as a developmental editor, she believes in strengthening the author’s voice and style with feedback designed to help the author identify the choices available and the standards applicable depending on the intended audience.
As a proofreader or mechanical editor, she addresses only the form of the draft: issues of regarding spelling, capitalization, punctuation, grammar, syntax and usage. She is familiar with a range of stylebooks (aka style guides), although her preference is the Chicago Manual of Style.
As a technical writer, she strives to distill complex subject matter and complicated procedures into plain English, clear to the intended recipient of the documents.
When preparing manuscripts, she assists authors with matching their manuscripts to the submission requirements and industry standards relevant to the work. she also provides guidance regarding the best approach for authors to put their work in the hands of their audience.
As a fact-checker, I find and verify any factual assertion or reference in a piece of writing. In nonfiction, all assertions and references should be checked for accuracy; in fiction, only to the extent the author is referring to real events, people, compositions and the like.
When preparing manuscripts, I assist authors with matching their manuscripts to the submission requirements and industry standards relevant to the work. I also provide guidance regarding the best approach for authors to put their work in the hands of their audience.
